Chopin's Prelude in E minor, Opus 28, Number 4. It's a pretty well-known song (you've probably heard it, even if you don't know the name up there). I was flipping through my classical piano book (of which I need more of) and found it. It stuck out to me because it was scribbled all over -- apparently, I started to learn this about two years ago. I have no recollection of this, but I figured the best place to start was in semi-ready memory.

Plus, I have a really big problem, as most beginners do, with the left hand, and this piece is very heavy in left-hand chords (it's most of the song), so I figured I'd tackle my "fear" and brush up those skills. Pretty good if I do say so myself.

I've been whittling away at it today -- I got a page and a bar in (har) when I stopped. Gonna work on refining that before I get any further. Plus, the next little bit looks pretty hard, so... I don't want to go on to that before I perfect the first bit.

This is a relatively short song, though -- two pages, with no repeat (despite the recording Miles dug up for me, in which the pianist feels the need to play it twice, and there's creepy wolves howling in the background. Makes me think of the movie I watched last night... yuck! (Stephen King's Desperation, by the way, is pretty good, if not drastically too short.)

More work on it later. So far I haven't noticed any really broken keys yet, so I guess that's a good thing.

Canon in D, Take 1 [
]
[ mood | aggravated ]

So yesterday I finally started the drag.

I've been meaning to, but, well... things happen! Right? Right.

I decided to start something new, so I don't feel "in a creative rut", so to speak. After all, only having one song isn't a very good repertoire (...fucking French), is it?

So, I decided to start Canon in D. A friend of mine started it as well, so I figured I'd pick up there.

I got two measures in (I think) when I hit the key. The key.

The broken key.

It's a low D, in the second set from the left. And it is indeed in the song.

It's not broken in so that it doesn't make a sound. It makes sound perfectly well! It doesn't, however, resonate, at all. So it makes a sound -- it even makes the right sound -- but only for about .5 seconds.

Very frustrating, when it's a half note and this song is played rather slowly (okay, "Moderately").

I kind of got frustrated and quit after that. Yes, this is how professionals are made, ladies and gentlemen.

I'm about to give it another go, but right now, I'm still pretty upset about it.

For those of you who don't know, the lowdown is that the movers dropped and broke my piano. That is the very short version of the story.

The very short version.

This is a testing post so I can figure out how to code this layout.
